upgraded timing belt

RE: upgraded timing belt
I got a quote from the closest Audi dealer a while back. I ended up doing it myself with the help of a few friends but Audi of Mobile only charged $890 with tax and labor to change everything including the tensioners and water pump. Out of curiosity shouldn't all Audi detailers charge the same. I know that they are franchises owned by different people but come on.A friend owns a performance shop and he bases the number of hours he charges for labor (non custom work) based on a factory assessment such as 3.5 hours to replace shocks, etc on a specific model.
I would imagine Audi must have standardized labor times for all common repairs so why such a great variety of prices across the country. Think about it, the parts cost the same and even if the labor rate differs between say $65-$85, on a six hour repair that would only be a $120 difference. So how on earth could one dealer charge 5 or 600 more?

RE: upgraded timing belt
and i think all would beneifit from a stronger belt since its the part that causes the pistons to hit the valves when the teeth are ripped off. granted the other parts can cause this to happen...but having a stronger belt say made from kevlar would help fight against the pistons hitting the valves...i believe it does this ,cause of the belt missing teeth throws the timing way off.
