Default turbo question (K03 to K04 conversion)

Hey guys, i got a 180 hp TT quattro, and I did some search on the forums, so I need clarifications. I am thinking to upgrade my turbo to the ones used on the 225 hp quattro. I know there are bigger turbos out there (such as the APR) but I don't have enough funds to upgrade the internals also.

I have heard from some people thatthe K04 isa direct bolt on, and some peoplesay that it's not. I also think it's not a direct bolt on, even though the turbo might be the same size, because it would require different oil lines, the two intercoolers,a new MAF sensor.

I also have my car chipped with the APR. I know iwould have to remap according to the K04 if i get it, butwould I need to replace the chip again too?

You would need everything from the 225. That includes the turbo, lines, manifold, dp (or 42dd dp), injectors... they only thing you dont need is the ic piping and cores. Its best to of just got a 225 to begin with. You can make more power with about the same amount of money as a 225 upgrade. Just save up $3k and get a t3s60. It will spool as fast as a ko4 and make more power.

that's what i was initially planning on, the 225, but i got a super good deal on the 180 to give up on. Where can i find more info on the turbo you are talking about? I really don't want a huge turbo, and rather have a turbo that can spool up faster, like the one you said, and also not have too much effect on the internals.

Even better, if there are any mods that can be done to make the 180hp TT to about 260 or 270, that will be awesome (which I highly doubt)

go here and type in t3s60 in the archives and 1.8t section. There is tons of info. Basically 20+psi by 3000-3200 rpms and will make 270+awhp and safe on the stock rods.

The only way you are going to make that kind of power on a 180 is kill the turbo or with nitrous
