Default ttq horn help!

I have a 2001 tt. I also have the problem with the horn, when I press the steering wheel, the horn doesn't work, but when I lock the car the horn sounds. Doanyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, theres 2, actually 3, horns.

Theres a high tone, and a low tone, those are up behind the grille, and are the ones that go off when you press on the steering wheel.

Theres also a third horn, seperate from that system, that works with the alarm.

First thing I'd do is to check and see if you have power going to the horns. Start by looking for a fuse, I dunno if its on its own circuit. Next I'd check the horns and wiring itself, you can get to the horn by pulling the lower center grille off, they're just up above the grille on the underside of the bumper. Third thing I'd do, is make sure the brushes (I'm assuming on the steering wheel cars still have brushes) are making contact between the wheel side, and the column side. Had that issue on my old 86 4000S, horn would only work with the wheel turned a certain way, I had to bend the brushes out a little more so they made contact where ever the wheel was turned. (thats the point of the brushes, so theres not wires wrapping around your column as you turn the wheel).
