I have a 2002 TT 1.8L FWD.

The gauges in the instrument cluster have been crazy since right after i bought the car, sometimes they would all work just fine, sometimes lights and gauges would flick back and forth for awhile and then work and sometimes whole cluster would go out. If they went out i would disconnect/reconnect battery cable and then they would work for awhile.
Past month or so the car has been randomlly shutting off while driving, the battery light would come on as well as the immobilizer light. I would just coast to the side of the road. Car would start up and die after couple of seconds. I found that if i disconnected the ground wire on the battery for any where from few seconds to few minutes and reconnecting the car would start up just fine. Had become more and more frequent. Finally the other day car wouldnt start back up at all, even after taking cable off for few hours, leaving key in ignition for awhile, and various other tips that I saw online. Read that it was probably a problem somewhere with the immobilizer on the car. I only have the one key for the car(the one with out the fob). Purchased one of the Vag-Com cables with the software online, to see if i could solve the problem on my own. I saw the fault codes for the Start blocked by Immobilizer(17978) and Key Unauthorized intermitent(01176). Thought about purchasing Vag Tacho and try and reprogramm my key. But im not sure if its the key that just lost its programming or its a problem with the immobilizer. If someone could take a look at the fault codes below any help would be greatly appreicated.
