RE: Which Timing Belt Kit dieselgeek or ecs or? darn shops
all new products comply to the new stats ( timing belt / tensioner ) which dont fail like the older versions.
older ones failed because of the poor construction of the materials and bearings ( not the timing belt )

If, however, the parts are not sold to Audi, the manufacturer is supposed to grind off or remove any Audi logo on them.

Yeah I just had mine done. It was $680, with everything replaced and new spark plugs. I paid cash, so my mechanic didn't charge me any tax. My Pt Cruiser's timing belt and water pump was $1100 a couple years ago. For the prices you were quoted, they're in the normal... and I'd say a decent deal. Good luck with it.

can you see any of the parts that are prone to break without pulling the car apart? Or do i just have to get it done? I mean i'm only at 40k right now, i dont want to get it done right now if i dont have to. Can i look myself or do they have to pull it apart

My mechanic was able to pull off the side cover, inspect the belt (make sure there are no stress marks, and check most of the components) and told me that I definiitely needed it done. So on the left side is the plastic panel to pull off, and keep an eye on it. I was at 74k, at 40k, you should be good, but I'd do it to ensure that you should have no related problems in the long run, if you end up keeping it for awhile.

You should be good, till you reach 60k then think real hard about getting your timing belt done. Most problems occur after 60k a few occur before then but only like 3% do.
