Default Stereo metal door removal

The stereo door is next on my to-do list. How do I get it off?

it is a little bit of work. you have to take both the glove box and the driver underpanels off, then take the metal triangles off. the piece comes off with the center dash. i would say it will take a first timer about 1hr to take parts off properly and about the same to put it back together

i could walk you through more detail i know the bolt locations by memory. you need a torx bit set, preferably ratchet and the correct size or you'll strip the bolts.

That would help. I need a little guidance to do this without breaking stuff. I'm painting the grab rails 2, so taking them off is good. Will the metal door itself come off completley?

it wont be a problem to take it out. I'd say get rid of it, and do a double din conversion, for a screen. if you are already doing all the work to take it out might as well convert. making the front fascia is not too bad. i could make you the conversion for 350, i have a spare center dash.

I'm only doing "budget" mods at the moment, since $ is tight. If there is a DIY on the double Din, I would love to see it. I can't justify doing a mod like that without saving the $ by doing it myself. And I want to keep the stereo cover so it can be closed when I'm not in it. My windows aren't going to get tinted, so I need to keep the interior as stock as possible(to keep the jackers at bay).

its definitely not a diy for the average mechanic. i used to work in car stereo and have been doing dash chops for a while. not anymore but i still dabble here and there. What paint were you planning on using for the pieces? automotive or just spray paint. if you are spraying it i would just tape it all off and you should be able to get the paint all around it.

I'm using that high temp(spray can)engine enamel. I'm doing several coats of that, then a
Couple coats of clear(at the body shop).

I can't tape it off and spray in the car. Because I need to clear all the parts after I paint them. +, it's hard to get a good even spray with a can as it is. I'm going for the "piano black" look, so it's got to be real smooth. I think I would rather take it off so I can make sure I prep it well, and do a good job with the spray.
