Default Special Tools

Hey everyone, i just searched and didnt find anything I was looking for. I'm getting a 180 fwd tt, and as a summer job i work at an auto repair shop. I can get free work done there ( I was thinking timing belt, water pump, roller) but I talked to my boss yesterday and he said Audi's use special tools that require all work to be done at the dealer. I know a lot of you do the timing belt and things like that yourself. Is there a tool kit to buy or is it not necessary, and all regular tools will work.
thanks,
vince

Product Needed
Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Timing Belt Idler Pulley
Water pump (with metal impeller)
Coolant G12
Distilled Water
Accessory belt (optional )
Thermostat (optional DIY does not cover)
New engine mount bolts
*Note* Kits are available from ECStuning.com, from mjm, as well as many other places. Most don't come with new stretch bolts so you need to ask for them. Can't say anything about anyone elses kits because I only dealt with ECS but i would highly recommend them. Make sure you get a metal impeller water pump as well!

Tools NEEDED
Jack
Jack stands
Phillips head screw driver
Flat Head screw driver
T25 Torx bit Screw driver
8mm allen wrench (Preferably 8mm allen head socket)
3mm allen wrench
19mm twelve point, 18mm, 16mm deep, 16mm, 12mm, 10mm deep, and 10mm sockets
16mm and 13mm wrenches
2x4 approx. 2 feet long
small breaker bar (unless you're Bruce Lee then don't worry about it)

*HINT* For the 13mm wrench go buy a craftsman ratcheting wrench. This is to remove the Accessory belt tensioner and this tool alone will save you at least 30 minutes when taking that stupid thing off and back on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

There are some, like a can tensioner, but even those can be make witha screw and washer. Some things do require a special bit or uncommon bit to do things

Theres a special wrench for changing the haldex filter for the quattro models. cheapest way around that is the 'h-wrench' from www.modshack.info. Apparently theres some special spreader tool for doing an alignment, but even with that, most garages around here don't have the mental capacity to actually get the car into alignment (hopefully your shop isn't like that). I generally break down and buy a full kmac adjustable camber kit for the car, and then you can avoid that spreader tool alltogether.

Those are the only specialized tools I've run across in my garage experience.

yup, thats what ive heard. plus its not really snowy where i live and we never really have violent road conditions. from what ive heard it doesnt add power, just traction. and for that traction you pay the price of 200 extra pounds. Why would I want it?

I'm just a highschool kid. I mow lawns and do ebay stuff and detail cars which is how I am able to to afford one of these. I will mod but I'm not going k04 or any of that, probably just a dp, dv, chip, exhaust, or something simple like that. Then I'll start doing visual stuff most likely like rims, drop, and body kit.

But I just want a basic, nice car with huge repair bills. Is that too much to ask? haha.

I really do appreciate the responces in this thread, I know many other forums where theyd just say shut up newb or something along those lines. lol Theyre really nice cars and I've loved them since the came out, I'm surprised theyve come down so much in 7 years that I can afford one. It just makes me mad that they dont sell for Blue Book. Like I watched a perfect one go by the other day (still trying to sell my car) with the perfect price. it was a 00 180 fwd 74k mi. all service records, flawlessly maintained, performance clutch and flywheel, spotless inside and out for 9k...Thats the best deal I've found but now i cant find anything even close so i might have to spend 10 to get one with 90k mi. now...
