Default should I do the timing belt now?

ok... my car has 51K miles.
It runs good, but it really tends to overheat when I am stopped at a red light, even when it's not hot outside. Any good(new) engine doesn't do that, not even at 115 F... That is the main reason why I am asking this... I'm not scared of the broken belt teethas much asI am worried about my engine heating up...
Also when the engine is running, even at night, the center console( parts closest to the tranny)heats up really bad, like you can't hold on to the silver arms with black knee pads on them, that's how hot they get... Thanks for reading...

You might have posted this elsewhere, but have you done things like replace the coolant sensor, check the fuses (driver side and on top o battery) and check to see if your fans both run after a good drive? If you believe you may have a faulty thermostat or water pump, doing the timing belt sooner is even better (obviously doing the things I just mentioned at the same time). Yes 10k miles on the earlier side, but think about how you wont have to do it again for at least another 50-60. Not only that, if everything is running hot, components are going to fail earlier, and you obviously know how much cheaper the tb service is then the I ruined my engine from ahving a busted tb service is. go for it, but check those other things too if you havent already.

I would say not enough info.

What's the inservice date on your car?
Did it go into use in 2000?

If so that's 7 years ofdrivingin which case you would be way over due IMO based on what Ihave read on this which is a lot.

Mines about at thesame miles but its a2002 but didn't go into service until mid 2003 so mine isn't as desparate yet.
