That's the way Audi originally made it (without spoiler). However, the car has very poor aerodynamics due to this. You need a sharp edge in the back to create proper air flow and at least minor down force instead of lift. The 2000 TT's were having a hell of a time on the Autobahn (with several wrecking due to losing therear around corners) until Audi retrofitted them with the spoiler.

Just fyi, the original design for the Elise also called for a rounded rear end similar to the Audi TT until the artistic designers met with the engineers and realized that their car had "all the aerodynamics of a brick" and would not be safe above 110 km/h. They then had to, as they say, ruin the lines of the car by adding a lip/sharp edge to the rear end.
