Default Rear End Noise 225 Quatro

I have a 2002 Roadster which has a rear end noise which gets loader with speed. Sounds an awful lot like a wheel bearing going bad. When the car was under warranty at around 30K miles, the dealer said the rear end and bearings were fine, and that it was from worn rear tires. Replaced the tires and four wheel allignment, and the noise got less noticeable. Now after driving about another 15K and the tires have worn some, it is back and even worse then before. Of course it is no longer in warranty.

Anyone with a similar noise and any clues as to what to start replacing? Less noticeable with the top down and the radio playing.

I had the same thing its either a wheel bearing or you have to buy new tires. I would hope for the wheel bearing.

Did you do both, or try one first and then the other? If the wheel bearing, how difficult of a job was it? Did it require a re-allignment of the rear end?

The wheal bearing is a bitch. I took it to my mechanic and he took a look at the tires and tell right away. Do you trust you mechanic? If so take it to him and ask him to take a look. if he does the wheel bearing and it makes that noise then he will befucked because he replaced something that did not need to be fixed. I would not go to a tire place they will tell you its the tires right away.
What I suggest is narrowing down which tire the sound is coming from. Then take it to a independet mechanic or your own mechanic. If its the wheel bearing let him deal with the grease.
