85k with new TB and WP just lying around and not being installed yet?

it's a clean TT, hopefullythe damage wasnttoo major

i just had my TB/WP done not too long ago @ 64k and still at 64k. those last 4k miles always made me felt uneasy every time i drove around thinking the TB would snap any second.

A single rpm will bend the valves. That's all it takes. You can crank your motor with the timing belt off and you'll bend your valves. So, fast or slow has nothing to do with it.

Now, you need to ask yourself if you are good enuff with a wrench to replace the head. It really ain't that hard. You are going to have to purchase a new (factory remanufactured) head anyway. If you think you can replace the head, you'll save yourself about $1000 in labor. Just make sure you have the right tools, gaskets, bolts, and other parts. If you don't have a Bentley manual, now's the time to get one.
