Painting Car...

Painting Car...
So I ran into a situation where I was left very little room to back out and scraped the rear bumper on the right side. It's a pretty big scrape and I have quite a few nicks all over since the car is 8 years old. Not to mention small spots here and there from when some jackass keyed my car.
Anyways to the point. I'm thinking of painting the car flat red. I've been reading that a company called BASF has tons of flat colors and that it's slightly cheaper than regular paint since there's no wet sanding or buffing afterwards. I really like the look of it too. Just not sure how it would look on the TT. Anyone have any TT examples in a flat color?
Here's a red one, non TT, and I like it...

I thnkit looks good on that saturn butI'm not so sure about the TT. Those lines aren't as smooth as our car, plus rims are a big factor w/ the paint being flat. Chrome rims would look like s*** w/ that paint. Do you know if its smooth or would it be a little rough?
I do like the idea though.
You know this much...its your car and you'll do what u like, plus it would be original.
IMO.

LOL. Yeah I know. There's no way in hell I'd spray paint my TT though. I'd definitely be taking it to a shop. I think it would look good too. Plus I don't see many flat red cars rolling around. It might hurt the value a little but after I go big turbo I figure I'll have to sell it on forums or on ebay anyways. When/If that time comes.

Haha everytime I see a flat paintjob I think "lol rattlecan" but I think it might look good on a TT.

I would be a little worried if you plan on driving the car winter and summer. I would make sure its garage kept. Flat paint jobs ( Satin ) scraches easy and could also fade after awhile. Being it doesent have the protective coat of clear over it. But if you do it do it right. Dont use any BS. Remember when doing a car.... you get what you pay for. Is you car red now? If not you need to do a color change which can cost you a good buck if you want to do it ::::RIGHT::::: remove windsheild side glass ect plus cut in inner doors and decklid plus hood and fenders.
Also the shop has to have a TOP OF THE LINE spray booth. If you see crap all over the walls and dirty filters in the booth ect they cant do it good. They might not have to wetsand the car but one of the reasons you wetsand clearcoat is to remove DIRT and Orangepeel. your orangepeel might be gone but you will still have dirt in the paint. I dont care what anybody says but you can NEVER get a perfect clean job. So when doing prouduct reaserch talk face to face with a sales tech and ask him about color sanding and removing dirt. The reason GM AUDI FORD ect get clean jobs is because its a controled area. Dust free lint free ect ect. Most other normal shops unless they have a multi million dollar set up like the bigmanufacts will not come out as good. Never does...... Take it from a painter hahaha
If its going to look good.... the shop needs to have a nice downdraft booth with a full air make up system. Most of your dealerships and higher class shops will have these. Lookout for people who say they have nice stuff but they really dont. Shop your price around too. Matrix automotive finsishes is half the cost of PPG so should be way cheeper than Diamont aka BASF.
Shop it around and look at the shop before you do anything. Make sure the painter knows what hes doing being some dont. Ive just seen a few people get really railed in the past few weeks. I just dont want to see another person fall to a hack in the bodyshop biz.

Well for it to be done right your looking at about 1800 bucks or more. However talk to you local shops because there is a additive you can add to clearcoat for a satin finish. It gives it a dieback look. Used for textured bumpers and inside plastic pieces.
