Was curious on the shroomies, because I know there are kits and the filters them selves, or like was suggested here just adding some pipe in between the maf and filter. You can just buy afilter and mount it to the maf directly correct, but adding some tubinggets you what besides theactual location change?

when you're shopping for shrroms, if it says "filter element" instead of kit... you're just getting the foam part. It wont have to frame for the filter or the inlet that hooks to your car. they sell the filter elements seperately so you can easily replace just the filter foam without getting the whole thing again. You don't want to buy just the filter element and put the little 7 gram piece of foam on your MAF, unless you plan to just wrap it around and zip tie it... there's no connection piece if you get just the filter element.

I would imagine you only have to do it once its prett old and you've cleaned it out quite a few times. It's got to be condition based, not time based. If you live somewhere that's real dusty or dirty... Im sure it'd get nasty quicker and you'd clean it more often. Somewhere nice... if you clean it good preventatively... it'll probably last a few years. $15 for a new foam filter element.

Ok, this is kinda new to me. How would you attatch the shroom filter to the MAF? Zip ties or what? I'm a little confused. Also, where can I get a shroom and how much am I looking to spend. This kinda looks like an autozone special or something, lol. But if it sounds cool then I'm down to try it.
I dont know how your running without a MAF wintermute!

lmfao.... no not zipties. He said something about buying ONLY the the foam filter replacement element. you need the whole filter (whole filter consists of inlet, housing structure, filter element, filter screen, hose clamp).
You buy the whole filter and the inlet for it has a rubber boot on it that slides over the inlet opening on the MAF and secures down with a 3 in diameter hose clamp.
they sell just the filter element replacement (just a round piece of foam) for them so you can replace the filter element once its too dirty to clean or if it gets messed up, this way you're not paying $70 for the entire filter all over again.
I was joking and said that if you just bought the replacement filter element and not the whole filter assembly... you'd have to zip tie it down since it doesnt have an inlet, hose, any structure, etc.

shrooms dont have to cost $100+
i got my trust/greddy for about $60. and yes you can bolt it on straight to the MAF housing. and you could get the kit i suppose, which moves the filter to the 'colder' side of your engine compartment, but really, once it hits the intense heat of the turbo, the IAT's wont even matter alltoo much.
that's what an intercooler's for
and yes random, i was being very sarcastic [&:]
edit:
and dont forget -
225 - 80mm ~ 3" inlet
180 - 70mm ~ 2.75" inlet
