Default open air filter...should have taken the shrooms..

after reading the "shroom" post many times i decided to strap on a k&n open element filter on my 180q. is it really supposed to be THAT loud. i expected an increase in volume but jeez, i drove around for about 15 min and got a terrible headache. second gear is the worst, it pretty much whistles all the way from 2 to 5 grand. so i guess my question is... is this normal?

I've just got my own red shroom & I love the noise. I plan on adding a 2"-3" silicone hose inbetween the MAF & the filter. It has no MAF on now currently. Hmm maybe I should mass produce this... shroomshack, I like the sound.

Now what would be bitchin is if you could get the steel screen over the filter punched out in little mushroom shapes.

+1 shroomshack BTW.

Was curious on the shroomies, because I know there are kits and the filters them selves, or like was suggested here just adding some pipe in between the maf and filter. You can just buy afilter and mount it to the maf directly correct, but adding some tubinggets you what besides theactual location change?

ok, so the drive into work was pretty annoying. this filter is way too loud but i'm gonna give it a week and see if i get used to it. the upside is it seems to pull stronger in the higher rpms.
