Oh My God.. My Alternator died AGAIN!@#%@!
I am so ready to drive this car off a cliff right now.
I love this car to death but i just CANNOT afford to replace this alternator every two weeks.
-sigh-
does anyone here know what would cause this? the first symptoms seem to be the battery light coming on... loss of the tach and speedometer gauges... ABS light... along with the trunk open light always coming on and the trunk unlocking.

RE: Oh My God.. My Alternator died AGAIN!@#%@!
I bought a rebuilt alternator, yes.
I dont even know where I COULD buy a new one... everywhere I've looked only sells rebuilt ones.
Hell, almost all alternators are rebuilt

RE: Oh My God.. My Alternator died AGAIN!@#%@!
Its a stock alternator.
...and no, not the audio. All the audio equipment has been disconnected at the source (the power cable on the battery is disconnected) since before the last incident.
The audio was my first check when it acted up the first time and I disconnected all power going to it and removed it all from the car before i took it to the shop for the first alternator issue. For two reasons actually: to eliminated it as a possible cause... and to prevent the $10,000 in equipment from being stolen while in the custody of the auto repair facility.
So no... it isn't the audio.
The alternator was replaced a week ago and I haven't gotten the time to put all the audio stuff back in yet. I guess its a good thing though since I'd just be removing it again now to put it back in the shop.
the alternator I bought to replace it was from a 2001 TT 180 that was totalled. It's bosche.
Should I try throwing a new alternator in it?
Alternators are pretty simple machines. Too much power draw on an alternator will almost never cause it to go bad anyway. Too little power draw possibly could (wet stack). what all could you possibly do to kill one other than getting oil all in it? I have a feeling that I just installed a bad alternator.
I bought the alternator used from an Audi TT Part-out and when it arrived, the pulley was different from mine. They did not have the clutch tool to change the pulley... so he pulled the alternator apart at the case half and install the whole front half (the half with the pulley) from my old one... on the back half of the new one. This worked for one week, now the problem is back. Do you think something in the front half (the part from my old alternator) was causing the back half to go bad and thus destroying the new back half like it did the old one?
