Default Is this normal?

Here in Buffalo NY it reached 93 degrees yesterday and my heat guage shot 3/4ths of the way up. I immediatly pulled over and let the car cool down for a few mintues turned it back on it was about half way which is normal so i kept driving whenever i cam up to lights it went back up to 3/4ths and as i drove it went to half way. Is there anything wrong ? or was it just to hot out?

When you say 3/4 how many ticks past the center line? Mine will occasionally move 1 tick mark past the center line, which according to the dealer is normal. I took mine in for some warranty work and had them address this issue and they assured me this is normal operation. It never moves any further than that so I'll take their word for now. If yours is heating up more I would be weary of a failing fan switch or relay. Next time you're in the car, listen to see if you hear the fans turn on when you come to a stop and idle. Let me know your results.

which temp sender do you have? Original was black, and was known to fail, replacement is green. If you have a black one, I'd replace it and see if that helps. Or, your thermostat may be bad, buy some G12 coolant, and a thermostat and try replacing that. Both these are cheap, and fairly easy fixes, and theres resources online to help you.

I have the original black, i think its working fine. Its gotta be some else. When the car gets hotter then normal both fans do kick on. I'm gonna check and replace the coolant. Hopefully that works

There are times when my temp gauge drops to nill while driving... then shoots up to 1/2, then 1/4, then back to 1/2. All that is in a matter of like, 15 seconds or so. I wonder if I should check to see if I have the new temp sensor?

Its easy to see, take the plastic off the engine, it should be down on the right side of the block (right from standing infront of the car looking at the engine). Either its got a green end or a black one, simple as that.

When it acts like that I would think it's more likely to be the instrument cluster, not the sensor.

the cooling fans are woking, I added some G12. Sometimes this happens and sometimes its fine. I let it run for about 10 mintues today and it went fine. It mostly happens after a good drive and I'll be idle at a stop light. I looked in the manuel and they said to check the v-belt. But do you think it would have anything to do with that?
