Default Newbie Boost Question

I'm three weeks into owning my TT. Before I went throughthe firsttank of gas I had my local APR guy do the chip and put in a Forge DV. I noticed immediately a change in performance. Mainly it seemed that the car took off around 3000 rpm's. I'm not sure but it seems like that extra power has decreased. It could be that I just got use to the new feeling and nothing is wrong or there is a problem.

From reading the forum it seems that without a boostgauge I would not be able to to know if this is the case. I have a cold air intake on order and have to go back for the install. I am figuring I should get the gauge and mounting solution (whatever that will be) beforeI go back. My question is without a Vag how doI know my car is performing up to its capabilities? Is there something the APR guy should be providing me with? Some sort of diagnostic? Could waiting to go back damage the car if I am loosing boost?

Also I have been leaving my car on after driving to let it cycle for about a minute since I dont have a turbo timer (180CQ). How important is this?Thisis comes into play becasue I see devices from Blitz andanother company thathave dual functions boost gauge/turbo timer.Does anyone have an opinion on these?

Anything anyone could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, you will get used to the new power but if it really feels like it is losing power. The intake hoses have been known to collapse alos cause the turbo is sucking alot more air and the side of the intake hose is prone to failure. I changed mine out and notice not a increase in power, but it felt like it did when I first got chipped. I dont think the APR guy can do anything but make sure that you are in the new Race program, and it didnt somehow get changed back to the stock program. Did you get more than one program or just two? Anyways hope that helps.

Get a boost gauge to really get an understanding of what is going on. You might also invest in a copy of VAG-COM to run some logs. When you chip a car there are a few things that can cause a loss of power because more is being demanded of them. Most likely the chipping brought to the forefront a failing MAF or a bad diverter valve. Those are usually the first two things to investigate when power drops off. But without the benefit of numbers from VAG-COM or a boost gauge I'm pretty much shooting from the hip.

I would go with this

You have no cel, w/ a guage it reads the chip boost level, and is at the right vacuum level for your altitude.

Is there something the APR guy should be providing me with? Some sort of diagnostic? Could waiting to go back damage the car if I am loosing boost? No, No, Get a guage and then make judgements (you will be ok)

Also I have been leaving my car on after driving to let it cycle for about a minute since I dont have a turbo timer (180CQ). If you take it easy for the last few minutes of your drive you can let is sit for a few sec's. Plus highway travel doesnt create as much heat as getting into boost on side roads.

Anything anyone could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

THat is mainly a 225 problem not a 180 problem. Forge has a vid on their website of the 225 collapsing if anyone is interested.
