Default Newbi to audi questions

Hey all,

Well ive got enough money saved finally for my TT ive been wanting since they first came out in 99 lol. I have an 87 camaro we run super street running high 9's @ 135 mph so i know Blower moters but have little knowledge of the little 1.8 liters. Ive been reading this site and others looking through pages of info about mods, issues with maintence ect.

I had a few questions that maybe you could answer. I wanted the audi for luxury and becuase well, its kinda hard to valet my 9 second camaro let alone hear anyone talk. I know it wont be close to the speed of my camaro, but i would like to try and run mid 12's. The 2 cars i have to decide between are both 225hp awd quatro 2001 models one has 47k miles for 16,900 or 57,000 for 15,000. My question is will tweaking the stock turbo upping the boost and buying a new front mount cooler, along with computer modsget me into the 12's? Or would i have to buy a kit like apr sells for 5900.00 for new turbo??

Thanks all,
Cody

I am also new to Audis, but not to cars. From what I have read and researched, it will take more than a chip/FMIC/dv/intake/dp/exhaust etc. to get into that range. I would assume that you would need a bigger turbo and all the things that go with that.

My other thought would be. I have looked around and found others getting 285-290 whp by adding chip/FMIC/dv/intake/dp/exhaust getting the most out of the stock k04. I figure if i can get 320-330 whp with a wet 50-75 shot plus bolt ons @ 3100 pounds should put me in 12 second range.

those are some inflated numbers. You can easily get 12's with the mods listed above (including the NOS). But the turbo numbers are inflated, maybe 260fwhp with the rears disengaged. But the car can handle the 50-75 wet shot but nothing more. Good luck and build it right.

This is probably a stupid question but would nos be abad ideaif you only had a few mods and 105,000 miles on your motor?

just the basics, chip, fmic, and exhaust and maybe a fuel pump. After that i would do a compression test to see how strong your motor still is. If that all checks out, then your good to go.

Thanks for the info Cincy. I have to settle down to the fact that im buying this car for its looks and not to drag race lol Consistant mid 13's i would guess could be attained pretty easily with just bolt ons then i can assume?

APR Reports that the chip alone would take the 225 to 260, correct? Would the exhaust, intake, FMIC not add anything? People on here have reported having a 225 with chip, DV, TIP, FMIC, Exhaust, VTDA, ****, & Boost Machine getting above 300 with the stock turbo and without NOS. Probably closer to 305-310. I don't really know any better, but are these exagerations?

you need to take into account drivetrain loss. FWD is usually 12-15% and awd is closer to 20%
