Find a way to get audi to give you an estimate before you buy it. Otherwise your buying it without knowing. I'm sure if you talk to your local audi dealer they would be willing to figure out a way to inspect the car before you buy it. If you don't know for sure what's wrong with it, don't buy it(unless you don't mind spending a LOT more than you thought). These cars are expesive/pain in the *** to buy parts for. And if the TB is gone, there's a really good chance that's just the beginnig of your headaches.

I hear ya, but why do you think it was poorly maintained just because the timing belt broke?

^^^ If the owner did pay to change the tb, I highly doubt the halidex fluid and filter were ever changed along with the "lifetime" trans fluid, ect.
Hows the condition on the rest of the car? Gauges work? Cd player work?

the car has 85k miles on it, I maintain cars and I doubt I would have at that mileage either.... I honestly do understand what you are saying though. Everything else works on it as far a i know.. I dont mean to speak agaisnt you because you clearly have more experience with TT's than me

yup. I would keep looking... this COULD be the only problem and be an easy fix but it could also be a mess of problems.
