you are going to see the same gains from both an expensive kit and the one he got. the only differnce it his he has a velocity stack which will help draw in more air and smoother than just a filter. the heat issue that others claim has very little effect, if any on perfomance.

not enough to alter spool charactoristics or increase power in any way. If you really want to get technical, it would be better to test the intakes with a vagcom and graph ait's with both intakes and over lap spool. im sure it still would change enough to warent the extra $200.

Cincy have you tried the "swiss cheese" airbox? I was reading about it on a UK site, can't find the link now though. Basically drill thelife out of the bottom of the airbox. He claimed hehad some good performance gains. I'll look more when I get home for the link.

Hey...yeah i have GIAC...It wasnt really a (KIT) per say though. I just grabbed a filter and a velocity stack... You can get any cone filter with adapter as long as its 3 " diameter and you should be set. And motors work on AIR flow.....you port your heads to get more airflow...you get a cam to get more ai into the engine...you get an intake to get more air into to the engine..id be more happy with the extra boost then a few degrees of cooling I got another make of velocity stack...but cincy gave me this link that wil work just as god if not better....http://www.turbohoses.com/

Plenty of people on vortex have dont it. they also smooth out the bottom along with it. It does help draw in more air than just the side of the box. I personally rather have a filter because the air doesnt have to make two 90* bends to go into the intake.

Here's the link to the "swiss cheese" airbox mod

http://www.wak-tt.com/mods/ramair/cheapinduction.htm

I tried it a couple months ago on my 225. Personally, I didn't like the sucking intake noise and the DV (Hyperboost) was highly evident. Epoxied it all back together, removed the restrictive snorkel tube and re-intalled the K & N panel filter in the stock box. Pretty happy as is. I guess it all a matter of preference. I also tried a cone filter and coupler direct to the MAF, but wasn't too cool with that either. Wasn't the same throaty intake sound I've had with my Beemers.
