Default New engine or rebuild ?

Hey everyone I was just Wondering what would be cheaper putting in a fresher motor in my 2000 audi fwd or rebuilding it. The car has 203000 miles on it. The body is perfect it has a new trans with 100k on it. I'm sure rebuilding would be cheaper but I just wanted to know everyones opinion.. Thanks Eric

Do a compression test on the car and see where it stands. If it comes back over 160psi/cyl with no huge deviation between cyls, its fine. 140psi/cyl is the lowest allowed.

I would just have a shop pull the head, give it a good hone, and then rering the pistons. This will bring back any/all lost compression and you should be good aslong as the head is also in good shape (lifters and cam tensioner mainly). You can swap those head parts in aswell if you have the $$.
