New CAI option

New CAI option
I introduced myself to the forum a while back ago, but rarely post. I've been building touring performance show cars for over 7 years and have recently started on my newest project with a TT.
I wasn't happy with the aftermarket support for intakes, (no offense to Steve, Neuspeed or anyone else) but I figured I could do something just as good or better with the help of a couple of my mechanic sponsors.
I contacted www.spectreperformance.com and asked for the following parts
(1) Stainless Steel Power Adder Filter (P1)
(1) Stainless Air Filter Shield
(1) 4β to 3β black coupler with clamps
(1) 4β Straight 4β Diameter Polished Aluminum Modular Pipe
(1) Intake duct filter adapter (I assume itβs compatible with the stainless steel filter?)
(1) 30β air duct with memory flex in chrome
(1) Intake duct Mounting plate
The whole kit cost me under $150. And took 2 hours to install on my TTQ225. Install was done by Performance Import Group in Atlanta area (PM me for a great referal deal if youre around here).
Results?
I now have a custom shielded, chrome, cold air intake that feeds from the front bumper opening right below the intercooler piping. The intake has generated much better low end response and an amazing difference in the sound of my stock Bosch DV (Forge on the way). Engine sound is not annoying by any standard, little bit of a throatie roar on higher RPMs that somewhat makes driving my TT a whole different experience.

RE: New CAI option
Its hard to tell from the pic but does the front of the filter have a tube going to the bumber? How are the guys at the Atlanta Performance Import group? I live in Augusta and cant find anyone worth a **** here to work on my TT. I have a new turbo in my car that is pushing alot of oil into the intake and need someone to look at my car and fine tune everything. Thanks.

You got it Steve. There is a flex pipe going from the right inlet below the intercooler piping to the tip of the filter. I also have a heatshield which I took off for the sake of the picture.
The guys at IPG are great. Give them a call at 678-817-6466 and let them know I sent you to get your 10% off. Good news, is they are in Fayetteville which should be closer to you and less traffic than downtown!

RE: New CAI option
did you cut anything to make room for the hose going to the intake filter? i'll have to remove my battery and tray to see where to route the hose. as far as i know its pretty hard route anything in there because of the stock dual intercoolers. once i get a front mount i'll make some alterations

HAHA! you guys are fun. Those are my team's models. You can always see more at www.elitedriven.com
Here's a couple more for now.
BTW- I had a chance to race test my new Intake. I took my car to a SCCA Track in Savannah and had an absolute blast. It's loud, allows you to hear the cars breathing which helps, and was a success with the models, who I may or may not have had by my side at 80+mph turns.

RE: New CAI option
As far as where to cut, give my mechanic a call. Chris can certainly give you some good instruction 678-817-6466. He did the job for me and only cut about 3" worth of metal. Routed the felx tube underneath the left intercooler.
Just way till you get this thing installed. You can thank me later

RE: New CAI option
I installed a Hyperboost DV recently and man does it sound loud with this setup. Now I can hear my intake breathe and the DV release shortly after. Radio and windows up, still clear as day. Loving it! Highly recommend this setup. Best part yet, it was 1/3 the price of the other intakes!
