Need tips on buying a used TT (never had an Audi)
Hello,
I have never owned and Audi. I am typically a Saab and Volvo guy but am considering a 02'-03' TT Coupe. I have heard that Audi's run fine but will nickel and dime you to death with little stuff like failures in the seat motors, windows, stereo etc.
Can someone tell me what are the common trouble spots are on this model? Can they be repaired by a shade tree mechanic? What should I look for when inspecting a possible one to be purchased? What questions should I ask the owner/dealer? Any big difference b/t Turbo an non-Turbo repair wise?
Thanks,
Zack

theres a good buyers guide on vwvortex... also, you can use the search bar here and there are a ton of threads by now, i promise haha...
only one thing comes to mind which is timing belt by 60k miles-ish..
when your looking to buy one, same as any other car, dents, leather condition blah blah blah

get the 03 unless you can find a good 2002 ALMS Edition (le mans)...
I would recommend a 225 hp platform one over the 180 because you get awd, a 6th gear, dual intercoolers and exhaust tips.
the 250 v6 is a beefy one though...
anything over 40k make sure it had the 40k haldex service
4+ years or 60+k miles check for the full timing belt service
head gasket valve cover and cam chain need to be checked because they start to leak
a lot of TT's have a instrument cluster issue where the coolant and gas dont read properly which leads to a lot more issues, some times when the starter goes out.
