Might get a 2000 TT this weekend, need input
hey guys,
Im looking at this audi TT this weekend, but theres some things about it that worry me. First of all its 84k on it , 5 spd but the timing belt has NOT been replaced yet. Now as of right now, there are no running problems with the car, but the timing belt thing worries me. Whats the cost of the timing belt change at a dealer anyway?
Here are some pics of it

now the guy wnats 13k neg for it, so I offered him 11500 due to the timing belt but he hasnt fully agreed to the offer yet. Everything about the car seems good, but what do you all think here about it?

pics dont work.
From a dealer, you can pay upto $1000 for a timing belt change.
Do it yourself, and it'll cost you a quarter of that. You need a couple hex wrenches, a couple sockets, a hydraulic jack, a block of wood, and anybody who's done a timing belt on any european car to help you out. No fancy tools, and you could almost get thru it on your own if it wasnt for the marks on the flywheel being on one side of the engine, and the timing belt work on the other.
One huge piece of advice if you do it yourself, crank the engine over BY HAND at least twice before you start the car. If you get the timing off by a bit, you wont do any damage if your turning it over with a wrench on the end of the crank. You'll do alot of damage if the car is trying to run, and beats a piston into a valve 50 times before you can get the key turned back off.
