Default Looking to buy a 2000 TT 180hp on Sunday

I am going to look at an Audi TT on Sunday. It is a 2000 model year with the standard 180hp motor and 5 speed manual transmission. The car is silver in color with the tan/grey leather interior (can't remember which color the guy mentioned). The car looks immaculate on the inside and out and it comes with 79xxx miles on the odometer. Any particular points or items I should check over during the test drive and pre-buy inspection? It does also come with an extended warranty which is nice. I've done some research and it appears there was some minor recall on the rear control arms with water getting into the bushing area and corroding the bolt. Apparently Audi will replace this free of charge and I don't know whether this has been done. Anyone with a 2000 had this done, or were you hasseled by the dealer? I really am excited about this car and I hope it turns out to be a good one.

On another note, what gives the high output 1.8T 225hp the extra jump from 180hp? Is it merely additional boost or a larger turbocharger? Or is it maybe a difference in exhaust flow/design?

Well thanks for any help in advance. I appreciate it.

Check when, or if, the timing belt has been changed. They've been known to go as early as 60K miles. Ideally, the belt, tensioner, eccentric pully, and water pump should be changed. Its usually the tensioner that goes causing significant damage to your engine. Also the impeller on the water pump is plastic if its origional, they crack/break apart, newer ones are metal impellers, much better.

See if the guys been staying ontop of his Haldex changes too, if its quattro. Quattro fluid and filter should be changed every 20K.

Hope that helps

The 180 has a K03 turbo and one intercooler while the 225 has a KO4 turbo and 2 intercoolers and,of course, the ECU mapping, injectors,.... ect to go with it.
All turbo cars respond well to mods if you plan on doing any.
A chip, intake and cat-back exhaust should give you good results.
Enjoy the car, if you get it. And welcome aboard.

You're about a month and a half behind the conversation, FYI.
