Lightweight drivetrain OR cutaways

RE: Lightweight drivetrain OR cutaways
i think its every 100lbs of dead weight you remove you gain 1hp(not flywheel or other parts) but like seats and and the spare tire stuff ....i'm gonna remove the spare tire and remove the back seats and put some matching carpet down. might leave the actual buckets and remove the back part....cant decide right now. that should be around 100lbs or more i would really love to free up! already have the lightweight optima red top....30lbs instead of the stock 50lbs

I went from Fat 5's to the rims that I have on right now that weigh 27lbs. Before I used to run 9.5 in the 1/8mile but now my best time is 9.7 and that is with all the performance stuff that I added. It could be my driving but I am going to go to 18lbs rims here soon to see if that makesa difference.

adding either or both increased wheel size (from 17 to 18) or add weight (from 21 to 27) you are going to lose speed. It takes far more effort to get the wheels to turn.

9.5 1.8th mile????? What was your mph.... cuase that equats to a High 14 second 1/4 mile ......with all yous mods i would think you should be in mid 13's... which should be a 8-8.9 second 1/8th

This mightbe a stupid question, butwhy does everybody get the spec II kit and not spec III, because it's only $30 moreand it can handle 65 ft-lbs more of torque?
And wheres a good place to get a lightweight flywheel besides ecstuning?

2 reasons for me, the clutchshould feelquite a bit heavier and it will have ahigher grip. To get the best take offs you actually want a little bit of clutch slippage. It is also easier some of the other components not made to wear out if the clutch takes most of the abuse.

Yea 9.5 in the 1/8 that was stock. With all my mods I ran 9.7 but I know that I can do better. The car wasnt running right and I was only able to take it down the track one time. I cant wait to get back home, gona do new plugs and check for boost leaks. I think my MAF was going out. So we will see.

Alright, i didn't read thru all the posts here, but in regards to stripping weight- the car is heavier in the front, if you were to pull the spare tire, and put a lexan rear window in it, pull the seats, etc, you're taking all your weight from the rear, biasing the weight of the car even more to the front, and making your handling pretty screwy.
Just something I figured I'd bring to your attention if you hadn't thought of it already.

the hood is aluminum and carbon fiber will only take off another 5lbs or so. But getting a 15lbs battery and putting it on the passenger side rear of the trunk would balance your weight.
