Default intake air flow

when you have a pflow intake or any intake with a heatshield where does it pull the air from? I made a custom headsheld for mdryflow with flowstack and it seems like its running more sluggis then it was when I had only the filter and flowstack.

It pulls the air from all around it. W/o the sheild it will pull it from everywhere, with a shield its dependent on air from the fender area. Same applies to paint...... nvm

got a pic.

w/o a shield and airbox removed you'll only see about 10° over ambient as long as you're moving more than 15mph. I ran a thermocouple under the hood and measured about 3" in front of my filter.

At a standstill, it only took about 20 seconds for underhood temps to climb high enough to start cooking food.

i was having this very same problem. when i hit boost i was reaching close to 215 F without a shield. even with a shield like neuspeed it is still not ideal. the suction from your intake will take the path of least resistance. so the air wont only come from inside the fender. you will also get plenty of hot air from the engine. thats is why a stock airbox is so good, it sucks the air from the fender. Yes you dont get the cool blow off sound but air is cold which = more power. also thermal shield on the air box to keep the plastic cool will help a bit as well. the difference in power for my car was being able to go 148mph with an injen intake ( had more but it got scarry) and struggling to get it past 120 with a filter and no shield. With a shield it did have more power but heatsoak was still present. The injen cai there wasnt noticable heatsoak, but i sucked in a bunch of water with my seidl body kit, so i got rid of it.

What you guys think of this idea...
Taking a 12"(or how ever long it needs to be) stainless steal pipe run from the MAF to the fender. Cut a hole so the filter just fits into the fender?? Good/bad. Maybe just look cool?

My intakes just for sound not to worried about the 2 hp gain/loss whatever

^ beware puddles. i'd def. shield it from having any chance of sucking up water

imo, id use silicone tubing (xo2racing has cheap silicone tubing).

Who do other intakes that go threw the fender and not worry about water? Or do they? Isn't there a rubberish/foamish sleeve that fits over a air filter to keep water out??

Silicone is cool. But stainless steal would look bad a$$ and sound siiiiiiiiccckkk!!
