Default Idle problems

Whenever im at a stop... my car's idle goes crazy... it will drop down very low to the point where it almost shuts off then revs back up to about 1300 rpm... it kinda sucks when im at a red light cuz thecar next to me start to think im challenging them to a race ( really... it was a civic...i didnt want to race but i smoked anyway) so some days it's not so bad and sometimes it doest do it at all... has anyone experienced this before? Thanks for any info.

just happened to me, unplug your maf and if it runs "normal" you got a bad maf also. you can try cleaning it but it may be to far gone.

your car has a deffernt set of maps if your maf fails and relys on the map. It runs a little richer and less powerful. There are some with revo stage 3 tunes that jsut ditch the maf altogether.

This problem is more than likely a bad throttle body. I've experienced the same symptoms on a few occasions. The solution is pretty simple. There's a cheap solution and a not-cheap one.

Cheap solution:
Go to a car parts place like Autozone, etc and buy some throttle body cleaner.
Remove throttle body (requires flat head screwdriver, metric allen wrench that I forgot the size of... and probably a wrench to get some leverage for the bottom bolt)
Clean
Reattach

Non-Cheap solution
Buy a junked throttle body off ebay
See above

The throttle body has a small motor in there and a potentiometer. Sometimes the pot gets gummed up and will refuse to work. In my case, the throttle flapper fluttered when I moved it with my hand.

The job takes, at most, 30 minutes for someone with no experience. Heck, I didn't have any experience and it took me 20.

check for broken/loose vacuum lines then have it checked for fault code
