Default I just bought an Audi TT Roadster - Educate me

Hey guys,

I just recently purchased a 2003 Audi TT Roadster (180 hp model) after rolling my 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder over. I got T-Boned and was able to walk away from the accident with justa broken fibia.

I've been a member of spyderchat.com for about six years and I'm looking for a decent forum replacement.

I knew the MR2 Spyder inside and out and even did a Celica GTS motor swap (same motor in Lotus Elise), so I'm not new to import tuning; however, Audi is a brand new world to me. I am anxious to know the TT inside and out, would anyone care to catch me up to speed?

I think my first mod is going to be the Unitronic ECU chip. Any suggestions?

Also, are there other tonneau covers (hardshell convertible boot cover) out there like the one below?

Wow. That looks like a violent hit! Glad u didn't get too beat up! Also glad you got away from toyota and into a Audi!! And a black one at that!!!

The biggest issue with the tt's are the timing belts. Few electrical bugs. (I don't think so much in '03s) but the timing belt u wanna see if its ever been changed.like right away. And if not and your 60k miles or over you will wanna get that changed. Some say 70-80. But to be safe.

For ecu tuning most people here have APR. Or REVO. Chips. Both are very close in performace and price ($500).

Hey man congrats and Welcome!

Be sure to check out the FAQ.

Also, check out AudiWorld TT Forums. Lotta good people over there, but the forum layout sucks. Some prefer it, some hate it.

Remember, like in any forum, SEARCH! If you still can't find the answer, just ask =D

Good Luck!

Wow, yeah that's some old school threading!

As OEM, it doesnt really. The audi TT has a tighter and more predictable steering than a factory spyder; however, after being dropped and braced up, its unbeatable. My spyder was awesome on the twisties. Theres nothing like a mid engined rear wheel drive car.

I am not displeased with the Audi TT though, it has a very tight suspension but is also luxury-soft, something the spyder did not have.

Yes, I lucked out. I was able to walk away from the accident, actually, I limped away. Unfortunately, I only had 3,200 miles under my belt with the new motor swap.

I wasn't too thrilled to go from a timing chain back to a timing belt again. I hate timing belts. I'll be sure to do this when I hit 60k. Im at 44k at the moment.

I posted a message similar to my intial post here on another audi form and had a Unitronic rep contact me and said he was going to be in my area in a few weeks and will give me a test drive with their chip. That was pretty nice of him and a great way to get a sale...considering I have two other audi tt friends.

FWIW I have the APR chip. Revo gives you a tiny bit more 'oomph' but it's been debated that it's harder on the hardware.

Inimical: How does that aftermarket bumper compare to the OEM bumper's ride height? I.e. are you more prone to bottoming out? Approximately how much lower is it in inches?
