Mine works pretty good. I got one key from 01 and one brand new one... both work from about 17 feet away.

Weird side note: hold the key to your chin, then press unlock. It'll nearly double the range. It uses your body as an attena. It's cool for remote start.

achTTung since you have your seats out could you take a look when/if you get a chance. seat removal looks like a rather long/ annoying task.
thx

seat bottom removal is very easy. Pull up on front edge until clips pop loose, pull forward a little, and thats it. I'll try to take a look in a little bit though.

went home for the weekend, Dad is working me like a mule. Just stopped quick to cool off.

There is just a small box mounted under the backseat that could easily be the transmit/receive point for the keyless entry. I wish I was close enough to my car to check it for you however I'm in Tulsa OK, and the car is in Omaha NE lol.

well you were right about the seat being easy to take out, but nothing was there except a small box but no clear wires coming from it at all.
here i took a picture:

this could be it, but idk which wire to mess with, and i dont see any clear wire like the normal kind vw/audi uses for antenna wire
