Default holycrap!! AGAIN ... I need YOUR help and advice.

Hey guys,

I first bought my car 2 and a half months ago. When I first bought it the MAF was bad...(seller didn't tell me) ...no bigs... i call him...hes an *******, but i finally get $200 out of him to cover the $300 bill.

Now the allignment has been off on my car since I got it...nothing major so I was in no rush to take it to the dealer...well today I took it to the dealer...the REAR axel is BENT. ...they say its going to be $1600 to fix it.

My questions are.

Can I go after the previous owner for the amount?
Can I legally make them at least buy it back at the price I bought it for?

If I cant get them to pay for it...do you have any idea where I can get a new/used axel for cheaper than the dealer? (Labor was included in the $1600) - $500 In labor.

Worst case, can I just file it with my insurrace?

Thanks guys

~Chris

If you bought it private party, I don't see how you would have any recourse with him. If you didn't buy it with a warantee, I'd guess you're stuck. Especially after 2 1/2 months. You have no proof that YOU didn't cause the damage last week.

If you're trying to get out of this for cheap, go grab the jack stands, and roll up your sleeves, it looks to me like you're stuck with this, one way or the other.

Good luck.

I think im going to take him to small claims court and file it as a mis-representation. The states attorney (MN) said that is my best bet. I have witness's and emails verifying everything he has said. So hopefully that will lead to my repayment.

Even with a judgement against him, chances are you'll never see a dime. Then, you'll be madder, poorer, and you'll still have to fix it with your money. As wrong as this all is, you should probably chalk it up to a life experience. But, waiting for him in a dark alley with a bat might soothe the pain some.

My friend. You bought a used car. We all love. Dont bail out on this ride because you have a bad axel. Replacing the rear axel is very simple. You can do it on you own with a haynes manual and a simple set of tools. If you dont own the tools the money you spend buying them will be far less than the dealer repair bill. the axel is only 200 - 300 bucks. You can also take it to a shop and have it rebuilt. CVs are cheap and easy to fix. You need confidence. I replaced 10-15 cvs in my limited life that i did with nobody to help. IT CAN BE FUN TOO. jack it up take the tires off unbolt you suspension and wheels hubs ect.. pop it out replace the 10 dollar seal put in a new one or a salvaged one bolt it all back in ... simple 3 hours give it a shot. also try to find a shop locally or in a rural area that may be cheaper. good luck...

A new axle is over $900 from the dealership not including labor and associated parts. Since you need a replacement and not a rebuild Idont see you swinging it for much under $700 if you source and install the parts on your own(thats assuming NEW parts from somewhere besides Audi, and not a salvaged axle which could be cheaper). As of now I havent been able to locate a source for a new axle, but I only looked in a few common places.

I dont blame you for wanting to cut your losses on the TT, its pretty obvious its been abused and neglected. On the flipside, with some TLC, you could still have a pretty nice ride and the peace of mind of a host of new parts.

Or do what I did, go get a job at Audi and abuse your employee discount and technician connections. Good luck.

Except a FWD doesnt use CV's in the back...[sm=insomnia.gif]

What is the FWD TT a twistbeam rear axle? If so, youre pretty much limited to salvage or Audi OEM replacement. An independent shop may take a whack at straightening it for you. I dont know, youre in a tight spot, thats not a common 'replacement' part.
