Holy smokes....anyone else have a motor mount failure??? 2002 TT w/ 21k miles
I sold this car to a customer 19 days ago. It's an 02 with a mere 21k miles and it's just as nice as can be. He called me today and told me it was having some problems and he was towing it to Audi. Turns out the left side motor mount broke!!! The engine dropped four inches and severly damaged the driveshaft and the nearby brackets.
Talked to the tech and one of the bolts going into the mount is stripped. I'm completely baffled. Audi has no record of this car ever coming in for repair to any of the motor mounts.
Has anyone else ever seen this type of failure?
Zach

How many miles? someone try a timing belt/water pump job at some point and not replace stretch bolts? Looks like a little works been done under the hood, thats not a stock DV.

wow makes me wanna buy the VF mounts but to answer your question i've never heard of that happening....thats the mount connecting the tranny to the frame...has the clutch ever been serviced? only thing i can think of as to why it would be removed other than to replace the mount

If you bought this only 19 days ago, Your seller has to cover this, especially with 21k! I wouldnt worry. I would just explain what happened. Keep us up to date!

i saw this happen once about 2 months ago in a jetta. the mount broke off in the bolts that go into the block. i thought then that someone removed those bolts and either over torqued them when reinstalling or it was a freak accident.

Thanks for the responces guys. I hate to leave anyone stranded so I'm trying to help the guy out. I finally got the service records out of Audiusa and turns out, at 17,245 miles the tranny was taken out for a faulty Reverse Gear, shaft, 3/4 gear and hub. I suspect that to get the tranny out you'd have to drop the engine mounts to remove the trans from the engine?????
