Default Hesitation up hills

Hello

I remember reading a thread a couple years back with a similar issue, but didn't find it in the search.

I'm noticing a sluggishness/hesitation at highway speeds (4th & 5th gear) so far only when I'm climbing a hill. The car won't climb past 3500rpm. I have a CEL that I need to have scanned, and I'm thinking it may be the same issue. My gut feeling is the Hyperboost DV is the culprit but I'm not really sure. Anybody else experience a hesitation like the one I'm describing? Coil packs and plugs replaced 23k ago with timing belt. I'm at 93k with a stock ECU.

Thanks for the help

I'll start with scanning the code(s) for the CEL. I checked all hoses and they seem okay (need to replace a coolant hose.) I'll unplug and inspect the MAF, see if I can clean it/replace it. I'll inspect the DV as well.

I had the same thing similar happen to me not long ago. I thought it was my clutch slipping, so I had it replaced. It got better but then came back a month later. This time around it was the hydraulic tensioner. They can prematurely fail along with the roller. On mines the screw that hold the roller onto the block just broke off.

Hydraulic tensioner, huh? I believe mine was changed when I did the Timing Belt/Water pump 23000 ago. I sure hope I don't need to do it again. Anyway I cleaned the MAF along with the IAT Sensor today and cleared the code by pulling the negative cable off for 10 minutes. The MAF was filthy! The car pulls harder and idles a hell of a lot better. I went for a short drive, no CEL yet but I'm waiting. Can't wait to see if this will fix the sputtering problem up hills.

Where in so cal are you located, myxyzxo?

My tensioner went out around 40k after my I did my TB. Not sure which went out to cause the TB failure recently. It was either the tensioner went out or the screw holding the roller came loose.

Am located in the San Gabriel Valley area. Not too far from Van Nuys (though I never venture up in that area).
