Default Help!!Overheating and engine light problem..

I just recently bought an 2000 tt quattro with 73,000 miles. It started to overheat a week ago, and I brought it to a shop and I got maintanance work done to it.
The shop replaced:
valve cover gasket
timing belt
water pump
upper hose
lower hose
thermostat
thermostat housing
serpentine belt
cam position sensor..
But today I was driving and it started to overheat again, so i turned of the heater and the thermometer went back to cold. But 15 minutes later the engine light came on . And now im really pissed because I just bought this car and im already having problems with it...Please help..I'm open to suggestions. Thanks

The temp gaugewent all the way back to cold while driving or just the center of the gauge where it was supposed to be?

You might have air trapped in the system it can prevent proper cooling....simple fix is start the car cool, remove the coolant tank cap, and let the car run till warm...it will allow it to recirculate the coolant through the entire system...it is also good to turn the heat on when you do this....and leave it set to max....

Well i would follow what the last guy said about the cooling system, but if the check engine light is on its not because of the cooling system, if the shop just worked on it take it back and have them check it out as a comeback, they won't charge you for it.

I know that alot of guys go with the green top coolant sensor the OEM one is prone to failure, that may have something to do with it. www.ecstuning.com has them.

I would take it back to who did all that work and make them check it out. Sounds like they did the water pump fix and may have missed something.
