The gt28r will max out at about 400bhp, the 3071r will do about another 50+ with ease. As for lag, its mid 3k vs late 3k, a WHOPPING 300rpms or so since the only diff is the turbine wheel. 300rpms wont really be noticeable.

The jump from 400whp to 500whp is HUGE unless you want to push a 3076r there on race gas and ~30psi from time to time. Stuff WILL break and cost more. If we are talking whp, realistically a 2871r will do 320-350whp on pump depending on what mods you have. A 3071r will do 360-400whp on pump depending on mods and max out at about 425-450whp with race gas.

For either of these turbos, a complete rebuild or 2.0L isnt needed. Yes i have a 2.0 which requires boring the block, new crank, rods, and pistons. You are looking at another $1200 or so in parts than what you need.

So which turbo to pick, depends on your goals. The 2871r is a great street turbo with great spool and powerband, the 3071r will make more power, but really would shine if you did plenty more work like discussed in PM.

also i have the GIAC X chip, the thing is you just have to go get it remapped for your new turbo, thats pretty much it though. ya so just make sure you get remmaped after the new turbo, you don't have to right away but it sure will save you alot of gas and cells lol.
yea well, i think if i went with a bigger turbo id have that fmic and clutch and such, as well as injectors so i could use it to its full potential. i wonder if there are any places that do custom tunes

im sure there is, i mean as far as driveability, i don't need the fmic and clutch just yet, i mean don't get me wrong, i need them, but i don't need them to drive my car safely as a daily driver right now. i keep the boost low and maintenace the car regularly. Im waiting on my damn MAF to come in today and ups is taking their sweet a$$ time lol. I don't recommend ups ground shipping to anyone hahaha.

You arent going to be able to find anyone outside of the chip tuners to do you a custom tune. Plus uni and tapp will have files that will make the most out of everything you add on from head work to cams. If you want a custom tune, then you need to drop $1-1.5k for a stand alone ems.

You guys are lucky. There's nothing for tuning shops around here. The shops that are around send the ecu's to a diff place.
