Griding and Scraping Noise
#11
Thanks. Are the bearings (wheel and haldex) something I can check myself, or is this all something I should have a service shop look at? I'm not sure if it's my parking brake, because it's only coming from one side, and if I come to a stop, the car will still roll.

Yes. That is exactly how mine is. From what I understand, you need to either buy or find a place to rent a $400 tool to do the wheel bearings. You can check the wheel bearings by lifting the car and pushing on the tire at 12 o clock and 6 o clock. There should be no movement.
I have not heard of anyone doing the halidex bearing themself. The noise sounds like it's only coming from the rear pass side, on mine. I just dropped my car off at the shop, because I have a warranty. And they determined it to be the halidex bearing. I have not yet gotten the car back.

check ur lugs, i had my mechanic change the pads on my car n he mounted the wheel on wrong n caused exactly what ur saying. it could be the wheel rubbing against the caliper everytime the spot thats off (closer to the caliper) comes by. mounted it back on right n problem solved.

Jake, that's the exact same place that mine's coming from. Unfortunately, no warranty, so out comes the wallet, I suppose.
hc, the rear wheels have been mounted since April. If that were the case, surely it would have occurred sooner?

See my post: Parking brake stuck on / fluid leak. I'm having the same issue now. It appears to be the halidex bearing.
Ps. it's not going to be the brakes if the noise doesen't change when you apply the brakes. I also don't think a rock stuck somewhere is going to cause a loud noise for several miles. I would guess your problem is either the same as mine or a wheel bearing.
