Fuel Gage

Trackstar6, does your gauge needles bounce around or flicker when you start your car? My son and I bought a 2001 Quattro, 64,5K miles and when he starts it in the morning the gauges act funny then it seems like they reset and everything works fine...gas gauge is odd like you say...but trip odometer and clocks zero out! Let me know!

I haven't had any issues with my odometer just the temp gauge and gas gauge. Also my car has about 80k on it and it already on its 2nd cluster which is failing. (first was replaced at 27k under warranty)

TT is in the shop! Since we bought it less than a week ago from the Audi dealer they are working on the instrument cluster.
Since there was another recall on the timing belt I am have them install a new one with water pump. It was inspected per the law suit at 55K miles but really need the car to perform well now without any mishaps. Figure I'd put a few bucks into it.... good little car so far, other than the Gremlins!

I've recently picked up a 2001 180Q and I've noticed my fuel gauge can change slowly sometimes with my driving style. It doesn't bounce or change sporadically, but after a few pulls, it can start to drop, but if I take it easy afterwards, it goes back up a bit.
I'm mostly concerned about the issue I heard where the gauge reads 'half empty' but in actuality, it's much closer to empty - as a result, I've never let it go further than a hair past half before filling up.
By "half a tank" I've gone 230 or 260 miles and typically put in between 9 and 11 gallons in. I'm skeptical to that being actually "half-a-tank"s worth of distance (460 to 520 miles on a single tank?! - my last car was a Miata which was typically dry by 220 miles) I'm not sure what a full tank of gas hold on a TT 180Q, I've been told a little of 16 gallons by some, 14 gallons by others.
