metal on metal sounds I can think of:
loose timing belt cover (lower or middle)
broken exhaust bracket
Geez, short list, but I'll keep you in mind as I'm digging around under the hood.

I have a rumbly/grind sound that comes from the rear area of my car when I shift out of 2nd. It only does it after I disengage the clutch and usually stops as soon as I release it. It doesn't do it everytime and it's so faint that nobody else even notices it. I only hear it when I'm listening for it. It could very well be something rattling around in my spare tire compartment. -shrugs- Not sure what it is... but if I find out... I'll let ya know and maybe it'll help you find yournoise.
