Default Drilled or Slotted... seeking opinions

So I can't afford the Big Brake upgrade right now. That's okay though... my car isn't a race car and doesn't have enough power for it to be necessary. IMO

Getting the Red Stuff Pads, Steel line upgrade and either slotted or drilled rotors to replace the old originals that are on it.

What are the differences in performance characteristics (if any) and are there any particular brands to look out from buying?

You will gain a little more stopping power when upgrading to driller and/or slotted rotors but not much. Remember that for brakes to stopin less distanceyou need more contact surface area or more pad touching the rotor. The idea behind drilled and slotted rotors is to dissipate heat better and by doing that increase the braking efficiency so that they last longer and your pedal stays firm. The stainless steel lines will help with that too.

Thank you. I should have been more specific though. I was referring more to the characteristic differences between slotted and drilled rotors. Do they both pretty much do the same thing? Is it more or less just a cosmetic preference whether you choose slotted or drilled? Sorry about the confusion.

If you go drilled... just don't get the cheapest one's you can find. There are a lot of problems noted with the cheap ones cracking.

Yea, I can afford about $500-$600. I just can't justify spending $2500 on the BB Kit

Both the drilled and slotted rotorsare known to crack whenthey heatup. If you buy them from a higher end company they tend to last longer due to steps taken by the manufacturers to avoid cracking such as coating with various chemicals. I would go for slotted rotors because they are more efficient and keep more of the pad in contact with the rotor. Combine thosewith some nice ceramic pads and you will be set.

You can get the Brembo Kit for $1400. I put the single piece rotor kit on mine two years ago and haven't looked back.

wilwoods - 2 peice solid rotors, 4 piston, high performace pads, ss lines - all for under a $1k. The 2 peice design will make the rotor way cooler than a drilled/slotted one peice rotor.
