RE: Crash test ratings?
My manual states my FWD tt, is 2700 lbs.
I believe the quattro system weights a few hundred pounds. As for cutting weight, Unless your going to RACE the car professionally or on a track from week to week... i'd say leave the back seats in... no reason to sacrafice the luxary's for just a few HP....now if you gained outragous amounts...i'd be with you .... but again its your car...do what you like.... but i think you should keep um in!
OR if they're blue ....give them to me. haha

no they are black (i hate the blue interior, sorry). But they serve no purpose and im going to make a fiberglass replacement and add bracing where the seats latch. The backs alone weigh 40lbs (estamated) each at least (pulled them to get to my cd changer) and with a nice fiberglass replacement the weight should go down 70-80lbs. Plus a new battery and light wheels will make a huge differnce overall in both performance and in gas saving. Its not like im stripping it clean for track use but take out any unneeded weight and still keep the class and luxury of the car.
Thanks again for the curb weight. So i might be able to get the car down to near 2500lbs(hopefully less) plus my sorry butt.

Remember an S2000 though weighs about 600 pounds less than a TT QuattroRoadster. So although the TT is not a 3000GT VR-4, which is perhaps the most overweight vehicle ever, it is still quite heavy. Although almost every new car is heavy thanks to Ralph "douschebag" Nader.

Uhh, I'll attest to their crash safety.
Guessing my accident was the equivalent of sliding sideways into a wall at about 70mph. The minivan involved left skidmarks about 4' long, so he wasn't on his brakes much, and I was probably doing 20-25 still.
Bruised up leg is pretty much all the damage I personally got, could have been much worse.

i got rear ended by a blazer, going about 35 a few months ago in my 00 TT (RIP) i just had a sore shoulder and a good bruise from the seat belt. but the blazer couldnt even drive off the freeway. so i would say its a pretty safe car.

The German TUV standards are actually much stricter than ours here in America due to the need for cars to survive high speed accidents on the Autobahn.

Reason I remembered this was because I had also brought over a '85 Fiero - made me think thrice why pushing it on the Autobahn...[:-]
Even my old 944 was built solid - maybe the Germans are just good at building tanks...

In a world here it has be come culture not to have pride in yourself or your hertiage unless you are gay or black.... I'd like to stand up and say " I'm proud to be a full blooded German" ...We build things right!
