I have a 1.8 GTI, it did the same thing, upon investigation there was a customer satisfataction survey on the coil packs. Remove the plastice cover to get to you packs and disconect the connector locks. start the car and remove one connector at a time, if the engin prformance does not change then you have it. I reccomend you get the hitachi packs from ecs tunning a set of 4 with shipping is $145 compared to OEM that are $80 each, plus they are much more reliable.

 

hi all new to this ive changed nearly all parts like guy above still have very very similar cold start issue .could this be fuel my 180bhp 01 starts first turn of the key few seconds later chuggs splutters for 10 to 20 seconds its like its on only 3 cyl ,then fine till next time its sitting around 4 hours ,,please need help
