coilovers/ shocks
Hi,
I have a set of coilover/ shocks that the pervious owner left me. They are made in germany and fits perfect for the TT but whats the benefit for putting them on?
Would it be easier to lower the car?

RE: coilovers/ shocks
From an engineering standpoint coilovers offer several advantage. Sure they lower the center of gravity and are a bit firmer but what does that mean?
Answer; A lower center of gravity will reduce roll (movement of the lateral axis about the longitudinal) as the lateral axis has been lowered and therefore will be more stable. A car is not an airplane and therefore movement about the vertical axis(yaw which is controlled by the steering wheel) is the only one desired as you can not travel up and down. Roll causes a loss of tire grip when cornering.
Second coilovers with well matched shocks allow a firmer ride without undue harshness. Audis are actually known for having the stiffest springs in the business (2-3X that of most makes) but ride quite smooth. A stiffer spring will also help reduce roll by allowing the chassis to move less freely. Once agin lateral stability is increased. Since they are adjustable the user can alter the settings to control everything from the stiffness of the ride to the dampening characteristics to increase or decrease stability in the front or the rear to adjust handling characteristics.
