Default chip price question

I have been looking all over knoxville, TN for a place to chip, preferrably chipping with Unitronics, and come to find out i would have to ship my ecu out for them. My next route was GIAC, and LSN Motorcars was the only place in knoxville i found to chip. I asked for the price and they said $748. That includes install but doesn't that sound pricey? and how difficult is it to actually install it yourself.

that's probably for more than 1 program... I hope.

If it's not, I'd call giac directly and ask why its so high.

They must be charging like 2 hours of labor on top of the chip. Most other places that flash will be right at $500 and then maybe tax

It's not like they make enough on a chip that costs them nothing, they have to charge additional labor. Forget them. Retail is @$500 - should take no more than 20 minutes.

Yeah...after reading what you guys posted, i called them back and they said i was quoted wrong. They said it is actually 590 for the chip and then 90 more for install. Still sounds ridiculous so i am just going buy a chip sopmewhere else and do it myself. Any write ups anywhere to install chips?

$90 is still a lot for the install. Sounds like their labor rate is $90 and hour. It may take up to an hour, depending on if they bench flash it or flash it through the OBD port. Anyway, it doesn't takea skilled mechanic to flash it, so they should charge a lower hourly rate. It's kinda hit and miss, but most places will flash for free or $50.
