I have been lurking around, but now I have an issue. Just purchased a 2001 180 fwd with 25k miles, and am teaching my son how to drive a manual. Not the best car to learn on, but he did very well. He did initially pop the clutch and stall about 5 times in a row. Then he got it, and things went smoother. But my CEL came on. I have not purchased a vagcom yet, and the local mechanic charges $120/hr to pull the code. I am just wondering if anyone has an idea what could be the issue here. Thank you.

you can go to an autozone or like an auto store around you and they will do it wayyy cheaper if not for free just to pull a code

 

Thanks. A Checker nearby will do it but not until Monday. Any ideas what could have happened? Should I drive the car in the mean time? Any help would be appreciated.

if you drove the car with the cel and experienced no difference i dont see why not.... i mean sometimes cels are silly little things and when they are something bad usually you can tell that something is wrong...

edit: if you have another car though it would be better safe than sorry... but i dont think it would be a big issue if you drove it
