Buying 04-06 TT.. And has Questions!
I'm buying an 04-06 Audi TT for the wife as a birthday gift. She fell in love with this bodystyle a few years ago and hasn't let me forget it! I just have a few questions:
Coupe or convertible? Is there a huge difference (besides losing the two back seats, and one not havinga hard top)? I live in the northern suburbs of Minnesota, and it WILL be driven in the winter at some point - so should I stick with the coupe, or go with the convetible? Is the convertible as quiet? Does the top fit nicely enough to keep the heat in?
Best color? This is an opinion of course, but I'm interested in what people have tosay. I was thinking black, or silver.
FWD or AWD? Like I said, it will be driven in the winter time, so traction is key. Her current car (05 Lexus RX) has FWD and she doesn't seem to mind during the winter months, but it also has a lot more ground clearence than the TT does?
Also, is there anything that I should look for specifically, or would be a good determining factor when purchasing?
Thanks!

RE: Buying 04-06 TT.. And has Questions!
Up here in the north under normal circiumstances without knowing better I would say you HAVE to have the quattro system, however I live in South Dakota. - I have a FWD TT which is more than perfect during the winter. - I drive 70miles a day to and from work and didn't get stuck ONCE while I watched many other cars get stuck or live in the ditch. - So that noted as long as you have snow tires your fine.
As for year of TT. They are the same! - 00 - 06 your not going to see differences in the TT. - Unless you are looking at a 3.2 V6 - Which from what I'm noticing on this forum is not a very common TT.
I would suggest just getting her a 00 or 01 - She'll never know the difference and you'll save quite a bit of money. - I'm debating weither or not I want to sell my TT. - However I'm starting to get the itch for a 7 series again.
I'm looking to sell my 00 Blue coupe TT FWD 5 SPEED for 10K - I've replaced the clutch/water pump/timing belt/starter...yada yada yada.... its quite reliable now and a perfect daily driver for someone that wants something that is " cute "
So if your interested, mine is up for sale, but not really.... if you get my drift.
anyways they're a fun little car.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the quick response and offer! I don't know how well she'd do with a manual though, haha. Before we were married she tried driving my Celica - but after many hours and many tears we finally gave up!
And how can you tell whether the car is FWD or AWD? Is it if it's quattro? Sorry for the silly question, I've never bought an Audi before. I'm a Beemer fan myself.

I would suggest a manual myself, My better half drives a Mercedes C240 - 6 speed. - She was a bit sqweemish at first however now after a few months of driving she swears she would never drive an auto again. - I've even gotten her to ride my rocket!
As for bimmers, I love BMW's! - I like Audi's, however they do NOT keep up with BMW in proformance or customer service. - But they are still good cars.
Also normally the car will have a badge on the back that says quattro - Ask the seller and find documents stating its quattro...because now days people can buy badges and slap them on.
Quattro is an great feature to have, however I have a FWD ...and its not a huge deal. - The car doesn't launch as well ...when wanting to take off like a rocket, your front wheels spin...which is normal for all FWD cars.
However, in the winter.. .your audi will handle HANDS DOWN better than any bmw unless your diving an awd BMW. Simply because BMW's are rear wheel drive for the most part. - Last october I sent my 7 series into a ditch totalling it simply because I hit some Ice

huh? say that again? they dont keep up with performance? i think NOT! take BMWs m class for example....the S class audis spank them oh wait i forgot the RS series too....where is BMWs super car? Audis R8 will pretty much kill anything BMW has to offer.

Acutally... The BMW M5 beat the Audi S6 in 0-60 and 0-120. It beat it in agillity, and handeling. It has over 65 more horses while weighing about the same.
The Audi is cheaper though.
I'll get off my soapbox now, and we should really presume the topic at hand.

ok....BMW costs about 14k more than the new S6 and only gets a 7.7 rating where as the Audi gets a 9.7? hmmm...take that 14k and put into the engine and handling.....C-ya

RE: Buying 04-06 TT.. And has Questions!
I'm not here to argue about brand. - I've owned 5 BMW's and never had a major issue with any of them. - From 3series to my 7series I always had great customer service as well as great proformance.
My Audi has been to the shop 10 times since october. - Half of the stuff wrong with it is manufacture defect. - These cars do feel cheaper, ride cheaper and hold up by far less as well than BMW's do.
They are not in the same class of car. - A Audi is a volkswagon with a few extra features...engines are the same, drive trains...etc - BMW's are there own. - The 7 series actully shares the same engine and drive train as a Rolls Royce because BMW designs those as well.
I'm not shitting on Audi, I like my TT. - But honestly I would NEVER buy another Audi again based on my experiences with my Audi and dealing with the dealer and Audi Corprate.
To many things HAVE to be fixed by the dealer, yes you can get around them with a vag.... but thing is I shouldn't HAVE to. - With my BMW's I was able to work on them myself when I wanted to, nor was it difficult. - I've had more mechanics that are NON- audi mechanics look at my car and say " Are you kidding me? " ---- " what the heck " ..... - When I had my BMW's they were affraid of them at first to find comments like " That was easier than I thought. " .... - " Wow that car is REALLY impressive " ...
etc...
Only comments I get postive about my TT ...are its looks. - And due to its reliablity long and short term... Its a tad bit to much of a bitter taste for me to LOVE this car completely. - I like it so I will keep it...but its seriously been a hassle owning it. - When I buy a car, I want to have fun and be worry free. - Not purchase a project. - If I wanted a project car I would have bought one knowingly ...not one I need to randomly fix all the time.
