brake sensor question
Hi all!
I am a new Audi TT owner (2005, 1.8T, 225HP, quattro, coupe), and so far I love it.
I have searched the forums regarding brake pads, but I am confused on how the wear sensor attaches to the pad itself. Is the sensor part of the pad or part of the car? In other words, when you buy OEM pads does a new sensor come with the pad? Currently I have a broken wire right were the wire meets the pad. Does the new pad include the sensor and the wire, or just place to put the sensor that I have now that has the broken wire?
Thanks in advance,
-bob

RE: brake sensor question
its a loop of wire build into the pad, as the pad wears, it wears thru the wire, and the signal is sent that its time to replace the pads. Its your choice whether or not you want that option, the pads you buy should say whether or not they have the sensor, if you go sensorless, just use the wires from the old pads, and twist them together to complete the circuit to turn the brake pad indicator off.

RE: brake sensor question
thanks!
I just wanted to confirm I can solder the wires and keep an eye on the pads until they need to be changed. Then when I do change them I can just plug the new pads into the plug above the rotor.
thanks again

RE: brake sensor question
Keep in mind, the inner pad wears faster than the outer one. It might look like you have a ways to go before they really need changing if you're watching the wear on the outer one, but chances are, if that light is on, its time to change the pads. I screwed up my stock rotors like that.
