Default Brake lights stuck on...

Hi Guys,
Here's one for you: I shut off my '02 Quattro and all three brake lights stay on. Randomly, they'll turn off when I am nowhere near the car, and sometimes they will turn on again.
While driving, they stay on all of the time.
I have unplugged my battery and will continue to do so until the dealer can take a look at my car on Tuesday. It is out of warranty so I would prefer to fix it myself.
Any ideas?

possibly the brake switch that contacts the pedal? Maybe its worked loose and the pedal doesn't activate the switch enough, or all the time.

You're not alone!!! I too have an '02 Quattro that also experienced that same exact issue. Very dangerous I must say. On the road it's just as bad to have brake lights on all the time as it is to have them not come on at all.

I brought mine in to the dealer (luckily just before my warranty expired) and they fixed it in a day. They had to replace a solenoid I beleive. I'll try to find my work order and see if it says exactly what was done. If not, I'm sure I can call them and ask.

I took it to my dealer and they quoted me $230.00 for the installation of a new brake switch (which can be purchased on line for $19 and $25 at the dealer) and I told them I would look around. 20 minutes later they called me back and offered a "1/3 split" whereas I pay 1/3, the dealer pays 1/3 and Audi pays 1/3. OK, I'll go with that. When it was time to pick up my TT, the bill was even lower - $46.00!

Now that's rare.

That's cool, my a/c broke right after my warranty expired and Audi agreed to pay for the labor if I paid for the parts..

Glad to hear your brake lights are working again!
