Bad model year?
I heard something about the 01 model TT having problems (coil packs, balljoints, etc.) and i just wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with it. I'm looking at a couple TT's and i have a choice between an 2001, 02', and 03'. The 02 has the least amount of mileage (49K) but its black (not my color). The 01 is about 57K, and the 03 has the most at about 66K but its my fav color (dark grey metallic). This may all seem cheezy but any suggestions

RE: Bad model year?
What is the technical model differnce between these models.By that I mean,is it a 225 or a 180? Is it quattro or FWD? Coupe or Roadster? Are all 3 that you've found the same? Also, what are the prices offeredfor each? Are any of them certified? Are the all in similar conditon? These questions are far more important than the model year which is relatively minimal.
I would give the following suggestion:
All thoughmany people enjoy the 180 IMHO I would only get a 225. You get 45hp more, extra torque, a K04 turbo as opposed to a K03, an extra intercooler, lower compression, and as to the coil packs the 225 motors were equipped with Hitachi coils rather than the less reliable Bremi units of the 180 which routinely fail, but these are not to difficult to replace as they are relatively inexpensive and is not technically difficult. You may pay a little bit more but if you interested in modding your TT or simply want a faster car it is the way to go.
'Although you so gain several hundred pounds I would purchase a quattro it does handle better and has more traction, and makes wet roads almost unoticeable.
Good Luck I hope you get the one you really want.

RE: Bad model year?
The only thing bad about any year is the 2000's dont have a wideband o2 sensor and the ecu's smaller capacity. But this only really effects you if you are going to get programing for larger turbos because your options are a little more limited.

RE: Bad model year?
oh yes all of these cars are exactly the same there 225hp Quattro's. I need as much horsepower as i can get. They seem to be all in the same condition, an the price is relatively the same. about 17K although the 01 is a little cheaper at 15K the only difference seeems to be the mileage. The 03 just looks a little different, i just cant put my finger on it.
