Default Awful Noise-Case of the Monday's

I am having this awful high pitched noise when turning on my TT. It's particularly bad when I'm accelerating. Power Steering fluid low?

power steering is more of a groan not too high pitched. though it may be that the belt that drives the power steering is worn and starts to slip when the load on the power steering increases. just a thought.

if it's a screeching sound, it's a belt.

Try "belt dressing", its a spray on belt lube. It usually fixes noises like that. You can get it at any auto parts store.

If it's only a temp fix, it's likely a bearing going out on a idler pully (such as the alt. bearing, ilder, ac compressor, or ps pump). Usually you need to replace the entire compoent and not just the bearing though, so that sucks. It's also a sign of the compoent ready to break.

many times things just need to be re-adjusted and tightened up. Most times the belt doesn't even have to be replaced.

Well, took it to Grandview-- after a 3,800 dollar quote that included a new steering rack, struts, and other "goodies" I gave them the middle finger with my mind and walked away. The fact that he finished the bad news with a "oh, yea might as well throw some new tires on there while its on the lift" let me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I've got my independent coming tonight for a second look. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks guys.
