anyone know what this is or what it does?

Ok, so the damn hose came off that solenoid valve that mounts on the bracket below the Intake Manifold.
If you're looking in the engine bay... just below the manifold is a black bracket that the 8" long small cover goes over with the two tricky fasteners. Well mounted on the underside of that bracket toward the throttle body, there's a solenoid valve with two hoses connected to it. one goes over in the direction of the DV and wastegate... and the other goes up onto that cluster of crap on the engine (EGR stuff?). The two hoses are connected on the solenoid at a 90* angle from each other and i would imagine the valve adjusts how much pressure from one of those hoses goes into the other. Here's a picture of the solenoid mounted on the bracket (not mounted on the car of course.). How safe would it be to just connect the two hoses to each other just long enough to drive 3 blocks to the place where im having the alternator done at? The valve should come in soon i would imagine but i cant wait for it to come in to get the alternator stuff looked at.

Disconnect hoses from turbocharger air recirculation valve -N249--item 7-; re-attach electrical connector.
Note[/align]
t
The illustration shows the retainer for electrical change-over valves from below and removed from the engine.
t
Illustration shows version for vehicles with secondary air system.
t
On vehicles without secondary air system, only the turbocharger air recirculation valve -N249- is fitted to the retainer for electrical change-over valves.
t
Disregard -items 1...6-.
–
Connect test hose to the hose connection on the turbocharger air recirculation valve -N249- marked with an -arrow-.
